The End Of My Life

The End Of My Life

It’s 3am on the 25th of April 1915.  I was in a landing boat with thirty nine other soldiers.
Everyone was full of excitement and nerves. We were under the cover of darkness.
My best friend was in the boat next to me. He was vomiting his guts out.  We were all terrified of
what was going to happen.

A spark of light  lit up the whole beach.                                   Almost immediately a beacon
was lit on the Turkish hill in front of us .  We jumped out of the landing boat.  I ran onto the beach.
My friend got shot in the shoulder.  I looked back  at my friend and started crying.  I sprinted up the
hill as fast as I could.  There were fifty other soldiers in front of me. In a blink of an eye thirty one
soldiers died, right in front of me.

I was terrified. I felt sick.  I saw my life flash before my eyes.  It felt like I was in a movie but I wasn't.  There was silence for a couple of seconds. I saw some Diggers digging a trench and I jumped into it.   I was freezing and terrified.

I peeked out of the trench.  I saw a grenade thrown at a soldier.  I saw him lose his leg.    I realized that I was shot in my arm.  There was no feeling in my arm. I thought I was going to die.  I shouted out ‘’ HELP ME GOD...
PLEASE HELP ME ‘’ …

Reflection
I and learning to write a recount.
I am proud of having good ideas for my recount.
It can be tricky to think of what is happening in the story.
Who can help me? The teacher can help me and people in class can help me.
The next step for me might be to make more sense and listening to the teacher for advice.

You have put a lot of effort into writing your ANZAC Recount. I am impressed with how you have sequenced your recount and added details to allow the reader to visualise what is going on.
